E-commerce comes in many forms, depending on what suits the way you do business.
The term "e-commerce" applies to any number of online exchanges. Not all employ shopping carts.
1. Accept payments online. This is the way to go for ongoing accounts such as utilities, and for subscriber services such as cable companies.
2. Display your catalog online and take customer orders over the phone or by mail. This is a key step toward full-blown shopping cart commerce.
3. Accept orders from the Web to be invoiced conventionally. This is a great way to facilitate trade with ongoing business-to-business customers.
4. Display your inventory on the Web but do transactions offline. This is the preferred approach for deals that may require trade-ins, customization and other negotiations best done in person.
And of course, e-commerce includes shopping carts and credit card processing.
The methods above can be used for primary distribution or to supplement existing channels. We've instituted these methods for LureSaver, MetroCast, Utility Trailers of New England and many others.
